Travel Guide: Cool things to see and do in Vienna

Vienna is the charming capital city of Austria. Strolling its pristine streets, you can see references to its history as the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire everywhere.

The city is not only beautiful, it also has a very special vibe: relaxed and stress-free, everything works like a cogwheel, everything runs on time, nobody ever seems to be in a hurry. And, unlike other European capitals, Vienna is not completely overcrowded and taken over by tourism.

With our Vienna Travel Guide, we would like to bring the beautiful capital of Austria closer to those who love to travel and show what there is to see and do.

01. How to get there?

Thanks to its location in Central Europe, the Austrian capital is excellently connected to the rest of the world. The best way to get to Vienna is by plane or train, but you can also take a bus or boat from Budapest or Bratislava, for example.

Many people choose to travel by train between European cities as overland connections are usually good and reliable. When we go to Vienna, its is from Switzerland or Germany and by train for reasons of sustainability. Also, it is more relaxed and we get to enjoy the scenery.

Travellers from overseas can look out for direct flights. Austrian Airlines, United Airlines, or Lufthansa are among those who offer direct connections from some cities to Vienna. It’s worth booking well in advance, it’s a lot more economic that way!

From Vienna Airport, it is easy to get to the city center. There are plenty of taxis and public transport connections are also frequent.

02. Where to stay?

One hotel we can definitely recommend, for young travellers in particular, is the Jaz in the City Vienna.

Here you find a vibrant mix of design, art and cuisine. The hotel is located between the neighbourhood’s own Naschmarkt and the shopping streets of the 1st district and features 119 In-Tune Rooms, 38 Bassline Rooms, 4 Offbeat Lofts and 2 Backbeat Suites.

Motto: Club atmosphere meets romantic beats with a vision. And so, you will find a unique blend of local and international music, food and art. The Rhythms Bar & Kitchen offers a great atmosphere from breakfast right through to nightcap.

What is more: the splendid rooftop terrace Mariatrink. The views from here over the city are truly breathtaking, the cocktails divine!

Another cool place we can recommend is the Hotel Topazz & Lamée. It is located in the heart of the city, only 200 m away from St. Stephen’s Cathedral and close to Vienna’s exclusive shopping streets.

The property consists of 2 hotels located across the street. The rooms are decorated in an exclusive style and equipped with custom-made furniture. Mahogany and marble elements can be found in the modern and spacious bathrooms. Some rooms have sofa windows that invite you to relax and offer a unique view of the city, other rooms also have a balcony. Breakfast is served at Hotel Topazz. There is also a restaurant on the ground floor of Hotel Lamée.

The most important sights of Vienna, including the Hofburg and the Vienna State Opera, can be reached within a 10-minute walk. Schwedenplatz, with connections to many tram lines and the U1 and U4 underground lines, is just 400 meters away.

We discovered the hotel last year upon invitation by Beam Suntory Austria to the pop-up bar in the hotel’s penthouse. That was really cool, fantastic cocktails by Truth & Dare! All in all, a hotel we can truly recommend!
