Time to shine: with Mondaine at the Zurich Film Festival

Every autumn, Zurich trembles with excitement about one event: the Zurich Film Festival. This year again, all eyes were on the Swiss metropolis.

The 14th edition of the ZFF promised to be extremely exciting and we were not disappointed: high-profile film premieres, stars and celebrities, Swiss and international personalities from entertainment and business, fashion and beauty… the Zurich Film Festival is about appreciation of the art and its actors, about talent, expression, performance, renommée and style, about to see and to be seen, of course!

In the middle of it Rey, who participated in various events for us; among them, the opening of the festival with its Green Carpet on Thursday night, accompanied by Nadine Vinzens, Miss Switzerland 2002, actress, model and DJ, the Samsung Gala, the Dior Party and the concert by Maluma.

In order to assure that Rey does not miss any of his appointments at the Zurich Film Festival, we equipped him watches from Mondaine Group.

On the pulse of time

At the opening of the festivities, Rey completed his look with a Mondaine evo2 Seasonal from the current fall collection. Which timepiece would be more suitable for the Green Carpet of an event that puts our small Alpine country in the international spotlight? Only one by this iconic Swiss brand!

Anyone who has ever travelled to Zurich by train will have noticed the large clock at the main station. Not only is it a popular meeting point it also features on many photos and postcards. Mondaine belongs to Switzerland and to SBB, the Swiss Federal Railways, like cheese to Appenzell, the Matterhorn to Zermatt, or the ZFF to Zurich. As a wristwatch, this design classic is the perfect accessory for an elegant occasion.

At the Samsung Gala, it was an M-Watch that helped Rey with the timing of his interviews. We would like to take this occasion to thank Dario Casari, Samsung Electronics VP, and Ronja Furrer, Swiss model and Samsung brand ambassador, for taking the time to speak with Rey. We will post the interviews on the blog soon. In the meantime, below some impressions from the evening.

The meeting point for Samsung guests was the Goethe Bar at Brasserie Schiller where a delicious Apero Riche was served before the evening continued with the official screening of Hollywood blockbuster “The Sisters Brothers” in the presence of actor John C. Reilly and director Jacques Audiard at cinema CORSO. This film is a fantastically staged Western Comedy that is based on the eponymous novel by Patrick deWitt. With a top cast -alongside Reilly play Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed and Rebecca Root – and masterful cinematography by Benoît Debie, this is a not to miss movie!

Beyond that, what are the topics filmmakers are currently preoccupied with? What hits the Zeitgeist? Many important, up-to-date subjects were covered in special film series this year. One of them is “Mobile Filming”, a category that Samsung specifically supports in parallel to being a main festival partner. Another hot topic is “Big Data”. The country focus was on Italy this year. The topic of this year’s ZFF72, a public film competition in the context of the Zurich Film Festival, in which over 72 hours a film of 72 seconds must be realized, was “Guilty”. The winners are “Umbral” by Alain Tomas Noguez Alfaro (Viewers Award), “The other side of the tracks” by Danay Gijzen (Jury Award) and “Ready Gamer One” by Valérie Catricalà. And of course, many famous guests followed the invitation to the Limmat city: Dame Judy Dench, Wim Wenders, Donald Sutherland, Johnny Depp … personalities whose work was honoured at the 14th Zurich Film Festival. Time to meet! Rey was lucky to get some celebrities in front of his camera and he even spotted Johnny Depp at an after party. We posted that encounter as an Instastory where you can find it highlighted in “Cool Events”!

Another highlight is, of course, the Dior Party which Dr. Roger and Alexander Maag have wrapped in a little Video for you.

Luminox Timekeeper: Run, Rey, Run!

“Every Second Counts”, that’s the credo not only with the Navy Seals but also in the realm of film. Especially if you want to interview stars! You are rushing from one appointment to the next and have to be on time because often, you only have a few seconds to obtain a short statement. Therefore, Rey wore a Luminox Master Carbon Seal 3800 during the remaining time at the ZFF.

We think he looks super cool with his new watch and surrounded by so much beauty. What do you think? Below are Rey’s Luminox looks at various soirées showing how to shine bright at night! Only recently, we got to experience the brand in a completely different context: during the day, in Iceland and in action. But more about that soon. Stay tuned!

On Instagram, we got questions about the watches Rey was wearing. Therefore, we are posting you a brief description and a zoom on the two models, the Mondaine SBB evo2 and the Luminox Master Carbon Seal, here. The M-Watch is a watch from the “Smart Casual” series, which we liked because of its minimalistic design and the autumnal colour of the bracelet.

Time for evolution: the Mondaine SBB evo2 fall collection

The new collection is characterized by understated elegance, minimalistic forms and natural tones: a maroon leather strap combined with a black dial and black coated case, a dark brown vintage leather strap combined with a matte stainless steel case and a model in subtle shades of grey. All three versions are available in the sizes 30 mm and 40 mm.

With their silver-plated indexes, hour and minute hands in combination with the legendary red seconds tweezer, these watches are true “eye-catchers”. For a lasting, clear view of the puristic dial that is part of the legendary design, the new Mondaine timepieces feature scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. These must-haves for the wrist are available in Swiss retail in five versions from CHF 275.00. Detailed information and tech specs here >>>

Luminox Master Carbon Seal 3800: always visible, day and night

All Luminox watches are Swiss Made and feature the unique and energy-independent LLT lighting system. They shine continuously without the push of a button for up to 25 years. The name is program and combines the Latin words “lumen” for light and “nox” for night. The logo also plays with the contrasts of light and darkness in the form of white writing on a black background and vice versa. These are just a few reasons why the U.S. Navy SEALs and other elite units around the world rely on Luminox watches and make them part of their equipment.

But you do not have to be a Navy Seal to wear a Luminox, of course. Rey proves it with elegance. Stylishly combined with a suit or dressed for clubbing, these watches are a highlight in the evening, too! Rey’s watch, a Luminox Master Carbon Seal 3800, also features CARBONOX+TM, the new Luminox carbon compound. This makes the watches not only more resistant, but also six times lighter than steel!
